Behold the cover of the Summer issue of Where magazine! I am super stoked that it’s MY photograph of the Indianapolis Canal Walk located downtown. The Canal Walk is one of my favorite spots in the city, so when Amanda, the editor of Where, asked if  would take a shot of it, I was thrilled. I had no idea at the time it would become the cover. I waited around for 30 minutes for the sky to become at least partially clear, then I shot a series of 9 photographs that I then merged into this awesome HDR image. However, I do have to give props to the team at Where that photoshopped in the gondola.

If you live in Indianapolis, it shouldn’t be too hard to find a copy. They’re at all the hotels and also at lots of local businesses and restaurants. I recommend you pick one up, because not only did I shoot the cover, I also have 22 other pictures in the magazine AND I designed 3 of the ads! Woo!

Meet Jessalyn and Sameer. I met Jessalyn a year or so ago while taking a class at CITYOGA School for Yoga and Health. She has an infective, joyful personality, and I am beyond happy that she is now happily engaged to Sameer. I met Sameer on this photo shoot, and I think that Jessalyn and Sameer are Jenni’s and my new best friends!

We met up at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, one of my favorite places to take pictures. Over the course of three hours, we were able to get some AMAZING shots! I won’t bore you with too many comments. Just enjoy the pictures of a couple obviously very much in love, and made for each other.

Oh! I forgot to mention that they brought along their adorable dog. I love dogs! Managed to get her in a few of the shots. She definitely had the time of her life smelling all the smells the museum gardens had to offer.

Love this picture. It brings to my mind the image of them walking down the path of life.

Halfway through Jessalyn and Sameer changed outfits. Sameer is Indian, and when they get married they’re actually going to have TWO WEDDINGS!!!!! They’re going to have a traditional wedding, and an Indian wedding. Personally, Jenni and I are super excited because we get to shoot photography for both of them. I’ve never been to an Indian wedding before, but I can’t wait to see all the colors and traditions!

The Brugge Brasserie is a staple in Broad Ripple. Great beer. Even better frites. Brugge Brasserie specializes in award-winning handcrafted ales and classic Belgian brasserie fair.

The landscape of Belgian beer includes a dizzying array of styles. Each of them offers the drinker something extremely special. Brugge’s selection of handcrafted beers looks to honor the Belgian tradition while keeping a firm grasp on Indiana roots.To start, I got a drink called Triple the Ripple. It has a high alcohol content, and it is very tasty.

One thing I love about Brugge are the tables. See that hole in the background. That’s there specifically for the pommes frites!

They bring the frites to the table wrapped in paper. It fits perfectly into the hole.

Voila! I cannot rave enough about how amazing these frites are. They are arguably the best in Indianapolis. In fact, I’ve overheard several arguments about where the best fries are in Indy, and Brugge is always in contention.

The classic pomme frites of Belgium, in all their glory. One of the hardest parts is choosing which sauces to go with it!

There are 12 sauces to choose from. Whatever you choose, you can’t go wrong with the homemade ketchup as one of your choices. It’s my absolute favorite.

More drinks! Jenni got something called the Pooka. It’s sour and refreshing, brewed with boysenberry. She let me taste it, and it is perfect on a hot summer day.

For my second drink, I got Gato Del Sol IPA. It’s an American Blonde IPA with bold bitterness.

Jenni got a Spinach Salad. It’s got spinach, apple smoked bacon, sweet onion, apples, sherry vinaigrette, mustard and crème fraiche. It looked delicious, and she said it was one of the best salads she’s ever had.

I got the Moules Frites, which are 2 lbs. of Prince Edward Island mussels with a cone of
pomme frites and warm French bread. When you’re outside there are no fancy holes on the table, but the frites were still just as delicious.

And the mussels were awesome. I don’t eat them very often, but I might have to now that I’ve tasted these.

If you live in Indianapolis and you haven’t been to the Brugge Brasserie yet, you are definitely missing out. Go there. Go there now! Monday – Saturday: 11:00 am – 10:30 pm Sunday: Noon – 9:00 pm.

I recently attended the grand opening of an amazing new ice cream shop on the South Side of Indianapolis. I’m a South Sider myself, and Greenwood has a new gem with Pinnochio’s Original Italian Ice Cream.

I was literally the first person to arrive at the special grand opening event. It was great to see all of the new employees busy cleaning every surface to make sure the store was spotless. First impressions count, you know! Personally, I love the decor, look and feel of the place. It was modeled to be reminiscent of the original Pinnochio’s, which is located on Sanibel Island off the coast of Florida.

Plenty of options for sizes, though I do recommend the waffle cone. There are also plenty of options for flavors! There are two unique flavors to Pinnochio’s – the World Famous Sanibel Krunch and the Dirty Sand Dollar.

I was happy to be the first official customer!

Followed closely by my wife, Jenni. Here is Jenni posing for me as she enjoys a cone filled with Chocolate ice cream and Sanibel Krunch.

Every ice cream served comes with an animal cookie on top.

I forget what I said to make Jenni laugh, but it must have been hilarious!

Meet the family responsible for opening up Pinnochio’s here in Indiana. Mandy and Jim McGovern began enjoying Pinocchio’s Original Italian Ice Cream years ago when they vacationed in Sanibel Island, FL. They liked it so much, they decided to open up a store here in Indy. It’s a family business, too! Their daughter, Miranda, is a manager, and their son, Alec, helps out too.

Miranda has a great personality, too. She rattled off facts about the ice creams with pleasure, and knows all the flavors and ingredients inside and out. She spent her entire Spring Break at the original store down in Florida being trained as a manager.

Mandy’s niece, Stefanie, is also a manager. Honestly, the entire staff is super nice and obviously loves the ice cream they’re selling.

The customers like it too! Here’s a couple enjoying what looks to be a delicious Sundae.

Another delicious looking treat! While I didn’t get to try this chocolate concoction myself (I was already stuffed beyond belief), this is definitely what I’m getting the next time I go back.

The next time you’re down in Greenwood, blogstalkers, I highly recommend checking out Pinocchio’s. It’s the perfect treat on a hot day, and lucky for me they’re only a few miles from my house. Why go to Sanibel Island when you can get a little piece of it right here in Indy?

Behold the logo I designed for the new extension of Seegull Media, Om Nom Indy. It’s my new baby. Om Nom Indy features the best restaurants in Indianapolis and the surrounding areas.

I have loved food my entire life. It tastes good. It smells good. It looks good. What can I say? I’m passionate about food! I’m also passionate about photography. Ever since taking up my first camera while living in New York City, food has been one of my favorite subjects. Sure, I love shooting weddings, and I am pretty awesome with commercial photography (if I do say so myself), but food is my absolute favorite.

I was first inspired to point my camera toward food by fellow photographers in New York City. After my first visit to the James Beard Foundation, I was hooked. After moving home to Indiana, I brought my passion with me. I soon started taking pictures not only for myself, but for Where Magazine, a local magazine all about what to do and where to eat in Indianapolis.

I soon discovered that there is a vacuum of food photography in Indianapolis. In New York, there are dozens, if not hundreds of food photographers and food stylists. In Indiana, there is a great need. So now, I am officially stepping forward to fill that need with Om Nom Indy.

This past week I had an awesome time taking pictures for Dick’s Bodacious Bar-B-Q in downtown, Indianapolis. I’ve heard about Dick’s and I’ve driven by it for years, but this was my first opportunity to actually see and taste the food. I can now say without hesitation that this is some of the best Bar-B-Q I have ever eaten.

It’s pretty cozy inside, too.

And with a huge menu, there’s something for even the pickiest of eaters. Of course, this is a meat eaters paradise. Dick’s takes pride in offering authentic Texas Style Bar-B-Q made with all fresh, locally provided meats, which are slow hickory smoked on-site.

They’ve also perfected their own brand of Bar-B-Q sauce. Personally, I prefer the SPICY.

One of the first menu items I took pictures of were the Hoss Nachos. Tortilla chips layered with nacho cheese, ranch beans and pulled pork. Can’t forget the jalapenos, either!

Next up are the Chicken Wings. These tasty wings have been slow hickory smoked and finished in Dick’s Bar-B-Q sauce. They’re served with your choice of ranch or bleu cheese.

If you want something on the lighter side, try the Salmon Salad. It’s a 6-oz. salmon fillet over a simple dinner salad. Love the colors.

Here’s a classic. It’s the Pulled Pork Sandwich, Texas sized, served with chips and a pickle. Honestly, that is a ridiculous amount of meat. Ridiculously good!

As for Bar-B-Q meat plates, there are ample choices. Here is the Chicken and Rib Plate. Three ribs and your choice of chicken wings or chicken leg quarter.

This is the Rib Sampler. I’ve never really liked ribs myself, but boy don’t these look tempting?! Three ribs and a half pound of rib tips. It’s a perfect introduction for the rib-challenged like myself.

If you’re REALLY HUNGRY, though, you have got to get the Texas Feast, which includes the true staples of Texas Bar-B-Q. It’s got three ribs, a half pound of sliced beef brisket, and smoked sausage.

Wow, look at all of that hickory smoked meat.

For the last shot of meat for the day, we sliced up a big hunk of Brisket. I love how all of the meat is cooked on site with attention and care. Things always taste better when they’re prepared with care.

For dessert, Dick’s Bodacious Bar-B-Q offers two delicious pies, in addition to cookies and brownies. This is Wick’s Sugar Cream Pie.

And this is the Pecan Pie. I think this pictures speaks for itself.

Don’t you want to dive right in and eat the whole thing?!

If you’re looking for a Bar-B-Q restaurant, Dick’s Bodacious Bar-B-Q can’t be beat. They’re a true Indianapolis staple. Tonight, I ate at a new restaurant on Mass Ave. It’s called the Bru Burger Bar, and it’s run by the same people who own Mesh! Jenni’s been there before, but this was my first chance to grab a bite and try it out for myself. We went there with Jenni’s family so I could take a lot of pictures of a lot of food.

First, had to start off with some beer. I mean, it is the Bru Burger BAR after all. Bru has a sampling available where you can choose any four from their menu. Delicious!

For an appetizer, we got the Pork Barbecue Nachos. These are Jenni’s favorite. It has corn tortillas, white queso, pickled jalapeno, lettuce, pico, sour cream and guacamole. Yum! We devoured this pretty quick.

We also tried some Chicken Wings. There are 12 wings, tossed in cavern club hot sauce, served with celery, cucumber, tomato and Gorgonzola salad. Double yum!

Jenni’s brother got the Buffalo Chicken Caesar Sandwich. It’s made with celery, Gorgonzola, cavern club hot sauce and shredded Caesar salad on a baguette. He had no complaints.

I, on the other hand, had the Blazing Saddles Burger. I like it hot and spicy! For some reason, I can’t get enough spice lately. This burger delivered. It had habanero cheese, roasted jalapenos and chipotle remoulade. Delicious.

Jenni got the Mexicali Barbecue Burger. It has white queso, roasted chili, guacamole, fried onion, garden and house barbecue sauce. She sure liked it!

Snapped this quick shot of the bar over Jenni’s brother’s head. I don’t want anyone to forget that it’s called the Bru Burger BAR for a reason! It’s a great place to hang out, have a burger and some beer.

For dessert, our waitress recommended the chocolate shake. All I can say is, WOW! It might be the best shake I’ve ever had.

Jenni ate the cherry. She always eats the cherry. It was the perfect end to a perfect meal. Blogstalkers, you should all head on over to Mass Ave. and try their delectable treats. You can find Bru Burger Bar right beside/behind Starbucks.

Meet the Dixons. You might recognize Scott Dixon as the winner of the Indianapolis 500 in 2008. Scott is a New Zealand motor racer who is one of the most successful all-time drivers in the Indy Racing League (IRL). This past weekend I had the opportunity of meeting him and his beautiful family, who will be featured in the next issue of Where Magazine. Now this is an Indianapolis family.

The first thing I noticed about Scott and Emma are that they are totally in love with each other. It’s an absolute pleasure to see people who enjoy each other so much. And with Scott being from New Zealand, and Emma hailing from Britain, it’s also a pleasure listening to them speak. I forgot just how much I love accents!

I was quite excited to hear that the two of them have a television show in the works about the life of a racing family. Now there’s a show I can’t wait to watch.

Wouldn’t you watch these two for hours?

We all met at Fort Harrison State Park, which served as the perfect backdrop for this outgoing family. Scott and Emma love to take hikes with the kids, and Fort Harrison has got some great playgrounds that I didn’t know existed. Can’t wait to go back myself!

Scott and Emma have two darling little girls. The older of the two is a fiery redhead named Poppy (like the flower). The adorable new baby is named Tilly.

Tilly is pretty much the cutest little baby I’ve ever seen.

Awwwww!

And she’s got attitude.

Poppy, on the other hand, lives up to her fiery red hair. She is totally outgoing and a complete extrovert. It doesn’t take her long to make friends.

It also didn’t take her long to run as fast as she could for the playground!

She’s also a natural at hamming it up for the camera. I think the reality TV show producers are going to have a field day with her.

All in all, I would say the Dixons seem like the epitome of the perfect family. They’re fun, outgoing, successful, and it doesn’t hurt that they all look (and sound) amazing. I hope one day Jenni and I can have kids as great as Poppy and Tilly.

It was a pleasure getting to meet and photograph Scott, Emma, and their wonderful family. I’ve liked racing my whole life, but I’ve never rooted for anyone in particular. That has now changed. I hope, blogstalkers, you’ll all be rooting for Scott right alongside me in all of his upcoming races!

I recently met my friend Ann at a restaurant I had never tried before. It’s called the Eggshell Bistro. She had heard great things about it, and all I can say is WOW! It’s up in Carmel, Indiana, which is about a 40 minute drive for me. In spite of that, I think I might become a regular! I’ve been there twice in the past three days. That’s how good it is.

The decor is reminiscent of a Parisian cafe. It features a global-fusion style breakfast and lunch menu, but the real reason you should go is the COFFEE! It’s literally the best coffee I’ve ever had. I’ll talk more about the coffee in a moment, but right now let me share with you some of the amazing decor.

The owner, Larry Hanes, is into collecting antique coffee cans, which are used to hold various types of sugar. The wait staff try to match the personalities at each table with their own can.

Love the variety!

I couldn’t help but put in a plug for Where Magazine. Hopefully they’ll feature Eggshell in an upcoming issue!

Okay, back to the coffee. The reason I LOVE Eggshell so much is that they treat coffee not only like an art, but also as a science. They have several special techniques for preparing coffee. Each cup is individually brewed, either by slow drip or through this fancy machine, a Japanese Siphon. The heat from the lamp pushes the water up through the siphon into the top where it is steeped in the fresh grounds.

Once the water is all up above, the heat source is removed and gravity moves the coffee back down into the bottom bowl.

Once finished, all you do is pour! Eggshell calls this the “HD” of coffee, because the flavors are more pure and more intense. It’s true. I tasted it for myself.

All of the employees are passionate about their coffee. Their excitement is contagious.

The coffee Eggshell uses is also extremely delicious. It’s Blue Bottle Coffee, which is usually only found in San Francisco and Chelsea, New York. Eggshell is the only location in the Midwest where you can find it.

Boy, that’s one good cup of coffee!

Another amazing machine that Eggshell uses is this giant I-don’t-even-know-what-to-call-it. Actually, it’s a Kyoto cold-brew tower. This is reserved for the iced coffees, each of which are slowly dripped over a 12-14 hour period. Not only is it beautiful, but it creates the most delicious iced coffee I’ve ever had. Personally, I recommend the “New Orleans” style, which is mixed with a healthy ratio of French chicory.

But Eggshell isn’t just about the coffee. Their menu is equally delicious. Here is a scrumptious Greek Parfait.

Eggshell also has a sweet collection of antique serving trays. Great for photographs!

Organic Stone Ground, Heirloom Grits. Special-ordered!

Sweet Potato Hash: w/Chorizo and Poached Eggs, Black Bean, Scallion and Jalapeno. Spicy!

One other special touch that I loved were these paper straws from New York. I miss living in New York, and these were a special treat. While sipping my iced coffee, I could close my eyes and picture myself walking the streets of NYC.

Honestly, blogstalkers, if you are ANYWHERE near the Carmel area, I highly recommend you check out Eggshell. It. Is. Amazing. Feel free to let me know when you’re going, because I would love another excuse to head up that way.

I had the pleasure of eating at a new restaurant today. It was called Oakleys Bistro, and for the life of me I cannot believe I have never eaten there before now. Everything was delicious! Thank you Where Magazine for giving me this assignment!

I took my Mother-in-law along for the ride. We definitely enjoyed ourselves.

One of the reasons Where wanted pictures was because of their amazing soups. They are delicious, and the best part is they come to your table and pour it into the bowl table side. Personally, I had the lobster bisque. Yum!

Barb had the French Onion soup. I’m a little jealous it came with a little grilled cheese.

And this is the Butternut Squash Maple soup. I’ll be honest and say I didn’t think I would like this one, but it was the bomb.

And because a single picture can’t do it justice, here is the soup being poured!

Awesome!

After the soup came the salad. Barb had the salmon.

I had the chicken.

As far as salads go, I approve.

Next up, dessert! My favorite part of the meal! I forget what this was called, but I think the picture speaks for itself.

I had the Crème Brûlée. mmm!

Again, I can’t believe Oakleys Bistro has been around since 2002 and this is the first time I’ve eaten there. It’s amazing and delicious and awesome and I can’t wait to go back and try some more of their offerings. If you live in Indianapolis, you’re probably like me and don’t know about this amazing restaurant, but you should go as soon as you can and eat it up. Eat it up, blogstalkers! Eat it up!

After arriving in Florida for Erin and Ben’s destination wedding at Sanibel Harbour, before even getting to the resort, Ben and I dropped by the salon to take some photographs of the girls getting their nails done. You might remember Erin and Ben from their amazing engagement photos. Well, the day is finally here and it’s time for a wedding! But first, some preparations must be made.

Funny story. Erin’s toe was actually smashed a week or two before and was black and blue, so the lovely ladies at the Salon actually created a fake nail for her. Isn’t it pretty?!

Check one, nails are done!

Finally arriving at the resort, Erin and Ben showed off their nifty gifty bags for all guests of their wedding. It was a great touch.

And this was my first view of the resort pool. Wow! I just love destination weddings. If you look close, you can see Ben giving the thumbs up. Looks like all is good to go.

This is actually the day before the wedding, though, so we all chilled by the pool waiting for guests to arrive.

Managed to capture a great candid moment of these two lovebirds together. Can you saw “aww?”

The whole afternoon I wandered around and tried to capture how awesome this whole place was. It was great because everything was right in one little area. The bar was by the pool. Everyone stayed on site. And the wedding ceremony took place a few steps away on a private beach. Perfect.

I highly recommend it.

That night we had a party at Erin’s Mom’s condo. There were a lot of people in a tight space, but it was an incredible amount of fun.

The night ended with a beautiful sunset, a great precursor to the day that would follow.

The next morning, all the girls hopped on the resort trolly to ride over to the spa to get their hair done.

Erin wasn’t feeling too well from the previous night’s adventures (of which I unfortunately missed), but I managed to get a few smiles out of her while she got her hair done.

Back at the pool, the guys and the guests had ample time to relax before the ceremony would begin.

But the girls still had work to do! Time to get Erin in the dress! … She may or may not be eating a sandwich in this picture.

Erin handmade all of the flower bouquets, too. Beautiful.

The ceremony was beautiful. It was perfectly Erin and Ben, 110%.

Afterwards, I managed to get a whole group shot of everyone who came down to Florida to celebrate.

The girls went barefoot for the ceremony, but Erin made all these unique flip-flops for everyone to wear before and after. I love that hers are sparkly.

All the guys were in love with the bartender. She was pretty badass.

And they lived happily ever after.

I have to say, it was an amazing experience getting to fly down to Florida to capture Erin and Ben’s wedding in photographs. They’re two of my very good friends and it was an honor getting to spend time with them. This wasn’t just a job for me, since I would have gladly been there to celebrate with them anyway. Congratulations, guys! Thanks for sharing with me, blogstalkers!

Full Circle Cycling is a program offered by ProMotion Fitness in collaboration with the Bike Line. It’s a unique program that combines a comprehensive cycling program with the unique benefits of yoga. You should all remember Chris Roche from his AMAZING yoga photography we did a few months back. Well, that was only phase one. The dress is hung. The guest book is ready for signatures. It’s time for a wedding!

You all might remember Morgan and Ben from their engagement photos awhile back. They’re good friends of mine and I had the pleasure of photographing their wedding.

It was truly a magical day, from beginning to end, and I was there to capture it all. That’s what you get when you hire me to be your photographer. I love capturing each and every moment of significance, even those you don’t even think are significant at the time.

You might even say I’m addicted to getting the perfect shot. And once I get one…

I have to get more!

Morgan is in the dress. Now it’s off to the chapel! Love this shot in the rear view mirror. However, there’s no looking back now!

Meanwhile, at the chapel, Ben is putting on his own finishing touches.

His brother, the Best Man, makes sure he’s picture perfect. Literally.

That’s one fine looking group of men! You might recognize some of them from the band, Stereo Deluxe, of which Ben used to be a member.

Enough with the preparations already. It’s time for the first look! We decided to do pictures before the wedding, so I arranged a meeting between Ben and Morgan at the Indianapolis Canal Walk. This is the first time Ben sees Morgan in the dress.

After that, it was down to business. Time to get the photos done before the wedding in 2 hours!

The ceremony was perfect.

Just two crazy lovebirds getting married and living happily ever after.

The ceremony was over in a flash, then it was off to do some solo pictures before the reception.

We headed back downtown to get a few more shots of the happy newlyweds before a night of fun and frivolity.

They’re so good together.

The best part is Morgan and Ben are such good friends. It was a pleasure getting to capture them on the happiest day of their lives.

I believe the brooch on the flowers was Morgan’s grandma’s, or great-grandma’s. It was an elegant touch.

Shot this video for Nikki Myers, founder of the Yoga of 12-Step Recovery program, just the other day in my BRAND NEW STUDIO! I set up the white seamless wall and I didn’t even have to set up lights. I have so much natural lighting in the room it makes projects like this a breeze. As Nikki always says, I LOVE IT!

This is a great example of how I can easily take a simple “talking head” video and class it up with amazing graphics and quality. Please, blogstalkers, let me know what you think, and if you have a concept YOU want to turn into a video, you should definitely contact me ASAP.

I had so much fun designing a logo for Amy. She went through CITYOGA’s Teacher Training with my wife Jenni in TTC16, and now she’s rocking out being a new yoga teacher up in Chicago. There were quite a few designs thrown out before we finished, but it was worth it to make it to this final, beautiful design. It was actually inspired by a drawing her Mom made! In fact, here’s the sketch!

I love how the design process is always different. Sometimes I have nothing to go on, sometimes it’s a vague idea, and sometimes I’m given a kick ass sketch to try to emulate! I’m glad it turned out so well, and I’m glad that Amy is happy with it. Designing a logo is the first and arguably the most important step when starting to brand your company.

Anyone of you blogstalkers out there need a logo?

Fresco is Italian for “fresh.” It’s also the name of an Italian sandwich shop in downtown Indianapolis! I honestly can’t believe I’ve never eaten here before. These sandwiches are so fresh and delicious, I don’t think I can choose a favorite.

I was asked by the owner’s son, Jeff, to take some photos of almost everything on the menu. Jeff is the Publisher for Where Magazine, and his father owns the little sandwich shoppe. I love working for Where, so I was happy to drop in, take some photos and eat some of the delicious sandwiches. We started off this photo journey with the Caprese Salad. It is comprised of fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and basil, and it is served with a delicious basil/mayonnaise dressing and olive/balsamic mix. These are all fresh, local ingredients. Look at those colors!

After the salad, we moved on to the stars of the restaurant, the sandwiches. First up, the Chicken Parmesan. If I *had* to choose one, this is probably my favorite sandwich.

It’s a chicken breast, lightly breaded in a Parmesan cheese/herb mixture, topped with mozzarella cheese and a homemade tomato sauce.

Yum!

Another classic sandwich is the Italian Beef, Fresco’s specialty.

It has choice beef prepared from Fresco’s legendary recipe. It’s sliced paper thin and goes great in their homemade dipping sauce.

A simple, delicious sandwich. I should also note here that Fresco uses Gonnella bread, which is baked fresh every morning and shipped in from Chicago. It is awesome bread.

Next up is the Italian Sub. This is the more familiar sandwich as variations can be found at almost any chain restaurant, but Fresco’s makes theirs from scratch with the finest ingredients.

It includes select slices of salami, capicola, and mortadella meats with mozzarella cheese, lettuce, red onion, and a zesty Italian dressing with mayonnaise.

Layers upon layers of meaty goodness.

Next is a what I would call a man sandwich, or the Meatball Sub.

The Meatball Sub is filled with tender, homemade meatballs simmered in Fresco’s own tomato sauce. It is topped with mozzarella cheese, which melts into gooey goodness.

It’s hard to see the meatballs through all that cheese, but believe me, they’re there and they are oh so tasty.

One of the newer items on the menu, which is GREAT for parties and a quick snack, are the Meatball Sliders.

3 for $5.00, they pretty much speak for themselves.

Last on the list is the Stromboli sandwich.

The Stromboli is filled with seasoned and crumbled sausage, topped with homemade tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese.

Of all the sandwiches, I think this is the meatiest.

All in all, Fresco is a great little Italian Sandwich Shoppe. I pretty much photographed everything on the menu, so if you see something you like and you live in Indianapolis, you should definitely drop in and try it out for yourself. It’s located at 320 N New Jersey St, just South of Mass Ave.

What I love most about Erin and Ben is how obviously in love they are. They also have so much fun together! I’ve known Erin since high school, and we became good friend in college. I was thrilled the first time she introduced me to Ben. They’re so naturally perfect for each other, and I’d never seen Erin happier. It was no surprise when I learned of their engagement, and I was so happy when she asked me to take their engagement pictures. Yay!

Erin and Ben are the bee’s knees.

Erin and Ben are both architects, so they wanted to have their engagement shots taken at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, where there are beautiful buildings and great examples of landscape architecture. Here are a few of my favorites:

Yesterday I went on a photo walkabout with one of my favorite people in the world, Nikki Myers. The first time I met Nikki I was overwhelmed by her positive attitude. She’s the owner of CITYOGA School of Yoga and Health, which immediately became my yoga home here in Indianapolis. Since our first meeting, I’ve come to love Nikki and the CITYOGA family. I made CITYOGA’s website and Nikki’s own personal website (updates coming soon!). I’m also currently undergoing Yoga Teacher Training Certification with Nikki as my teacher.

Nikki is an accomplished teacher and practitioner on the path of Yoga. A unique focus of her path has been the integration of yoga in healing. In fact, Nikki came to yoga in the midst of her own health crisis, but quickly realized yoga was centering and firmly grounding her in a scared space that allowed healing to happen far beyond the physical. It’s Nikki’s ability to overcome all the bad things in her life that makes me admire her so much.

Born out of her personal struggles with addiction, Nikki is also the founder of the acclaimed Yoga of 12-Step Recovery program (also made the website for), featured in the New York Times and Yoga Journal. She is quick to tell the world, “The 12-step program and Yoga saved my life – one is my lifeboat, the other my launching pad.”

Nikki is simply the best. Every time I’m around her I feel my own spirits lifted. I would definitely call her a guru.

And now I have to say something about Mysh, Nikki’s daughter. Mysh is the real brains and operator behind Nikki and CITYOGA.  She manages and runs everything behind the scenes, and personally I don’t think she gets enough credit for all of her hard work.

Part yoga teacher, part personal trainer, part life coach – this is what you get when you study and train with Chris Roche. Chris’s style of coaching and teaching is built on strength and stillness which creates a balanced approach to becoming a healthy and whole human being. Chris teaches his students the foundations for embracing a quality life while still living a “normal” life. His way is a lifestyle, not a short term fix or instant gratification. This is a disciplined path for those interested and willing to choose a different way of experiencing life than what most modern humans are living.

Pretty much, Chris is a badass. That’s a 53 lb. kettlebell he has lifted above his head. Not to mention that he also carried around pretty much the entire canal.

With over 18 years of experience as a personal trainer, coach, group fitness instructor, yoga teacher, meditation guide and workshop presenter, Chris has held certifications that range from CrossFit Level I, Russian Kettlebell Challenge Level I, Yoga Alliance, and much more.  He also has a degree in Exercise Science and advanced study and instruction in meditation and the contemplative arts.

Currently, Chris owns and operates PR Fitness, a garage-style gym located in Brownsburg Indiana. He is also the founder and creator of “Bridging the Wellness Gap”, a holistic 12-week lifestyle transformation program that focuses on health, fitness, and well-being.

To date, Chris has logged over 10,000 hours of class instruction and taught yoga and fitness to thousands of students ranging from beginners to advanced practitioners; from stay at home parents to Hollywood super-stars. He is also a veteran with 8 years service in the US Coast Guard and a member of Kingsway Christian Church.

Personally, I love taking Chris’s yoga classes at CITYOGA. His classes at CITYOGA are Tuesday’s 5:45-7:00pm and Saturday’s 8:00-9:30am. He also teaches a yoga class at PR Fitness Thursday 6:45-7:45pm.

There’s that kettlebell again. Love it alongside his awesome tattoos.

Love the way this shot turned out with the water behind Chris.

It seems that no matter where I put him or what pose I had him do, Chris seamlessly blended in with the world around him.

I loved this pose especially. It sort of reminds me of a Russian dancer.

And here you can see the intense focus on Chris’s face. This pose looks incredibly difficult to me. In fact, I tried it afterwards and couldn’t even come close. it’s all core strength.

Those who study with Chris are forging a life of balance and a life of optimal health, fitness, and well-being. What you get from him are the life skills, fitness tools, wellness techniques and spiritual underpinnings necessary to create a life of fun, fitness, and fulfillment.

Tonight, Jenni, Barb and I went to New Day Meadery, located in Historic Fountain Square, near downtown Indianapolis. New Day Meadery is the creator of fine, handcrafted honey wines and cider. I’ve driven by many times, but this was my first opportunity to taste their drinks, which turned out to be absolutely delicious.

New Day Meadery is a true family owned and operated entrepreneurial endeavor. Above is Tia, one of New Day’s owners. She is so nice! Of course, that makes sense since she orchestrates all the marketing and operational matters.

Her husband, Brett, takes great care in crafting all of New Day’s meads. Brett and Tia started making mead in 2001 when they moved to Brett’s family farm and started keeping bees. They didn’t open New Day until 2006… 2006?! This place has been around for 5 years and I only just now tasted their delicious honey concoctions? Tragedy!

I think Jenni agrees with me. Very tasty.

New Day is all about the fresh, local ingredients, especially the honey. Each drink I tasted had some form of honey in it, which I love. My favorite was the South Cider (love the pun!), which is a hard apple cider sweetened with honey, with notes of fresh apple and a creamy finish. Delicious.

I also loved the decor. These flowers looked nice, so I snapped a quick pic.

Jenni, Barb and I all tasted six of New Day’s offerings for $5 (great deal!). Afterwards, we bought some growlers of our favorites. Growlers are $4 for the bottle and $12 to fill. I got some South Cider, and Jenni got some Free Thinker, a carbonated honey blueberry wine.

We were also very much in luck, because tonight is the First Friday of the month, which apparently is a monthly event at New Day. Score! In addition to the delicious cider and wine, there was also a nice little snack stand set up in the back.

This particular First Friday was in honor of local artist (and New Day assistant wine maker), Luke Kroh. His artwork is all over New Day’s walls this month. Luke’s work is a spectacle of iconoclastic imagery set in vibrant colors that will hit you hard and make you want to take a piece or two home. This was one of my favorite pieces:

Located in the heart of Fountain Square on the corner of Prospect and Shelby, New Day Meadery is waiting for you to drop by, blogstalkers. I’m glad I did, and you will be too! Their use of fresh, locally grown fruit and honey forces them to keep their quantities small, but it’s that same reverence for quality over quantity that makes their mead so highly prized.

I wasn’t sure what I was going to do for lunch today, when I got a call from Where Magazine to take some last minute pictures of the Flatwater Restaurant in Broad Ripple. Perfect timing! The Flatwater Restaurant is a great place to kick back and relax, meet up with friends and family, share some laughs, and enjoy good eats and drinks.

I met with Lesley, who works for Where, and together we (tried) to eat all of these delicious homemade pulled pork nachos. And as always, Sun King Sunlight Cream Ale is a perfect match.

Honestly, we barely put a dent in eating the whole plate. This alone would have made a great lunch.

But there’s more! Lesley ordered the Mahi Mahi Tacos, one of the most popular dishes the Flatwater Restaurant offers.

I, on the other hand, ordered a burger. When I go to a restaurant like the Flatwater for the first time, I can always judge how good it is based on the burger. The Flatwater passed my inspection with flying colors, because this burger was to die for. I also love the shark above the bar!

I have a small place in my heart reserved for mushrooms. Yum! The homemade fries are also some of the best in the city.

The Flatwater Restaurant is located right on the Canal. It was a little hot today, but you can sit out on their waterfront deck and watch the geese float by while you enjoy some amazing food. They also have live music 5 nights a week! Before today I hadn’t actually heard of the Flatwater, but I’m definitely heading back there soon.

Today I had the pleasure of having lunch at one of my favorite restaurants, Goose the Market.  It’s located at the intersection of 25th Street and Deleware, just north of downtown Indianapolis.

Goose the Market is built around the love of phenomenal food and the people who passionately produce it.  It’s filled with wonderful, fresh cuts of meat and delicious cheese.  You can buy products to cook yourself at home, or get one of the freshly made sandwiches.

The staff is nice, helpful and friendly… plus they have the coolest shirts ever.  Check it out!  You can purchase one for yourself.  Think I might have to splurge the next time I’m there and get one for myself.

They also sell fresh vegetables and produce.  Delicious!  It’s all organically grown, certified organic and locally grown produce.  I love locally grown food, because that’s how you know it’s fresh.

I also can’t help but mention the daily baked French bread.  It’s perfect for sandwiches.

Free lemon water, anyone?

Love this picture hanging on the wall.  I think it exemplifies what Goose the Market is all about.  All the meat is local and from Indiana.  It’s all natural, delivered by the farmer and slaughtered just hours or days before (except for their luscious dry-aged beef which takes 21 days to reach perfection).

Goose also has great seating both inside and out, so you can eat your fresh meats, cheeses and produce right away!  The outside seating was great on a day like today.  It’s hot out, but there was a great breeze that felt wonderful as we indulged in our awesome sandwiches.

Jenni ate a vegetarian version of “The Goose.”  It’s covered with basil, fresh mozzarella and extra virgin olive oil.  It looks good, but personally I like some meat on my sandwich.

So I got a “Batali.”

The Batali is covered with spicy coppa, soppresseta, capocolla, provolone, tomato preserves, hot giardiniera, marinated red onion, mayo and romaine.  It might be one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had, which is why I keep going back for more.  It’s nice and spicy, just the way I like it.

For dessert, we shared some delicious gelato.  The Goose scoop shop has twelve choices of gelato, ice cream and sorbets to choose from. You can take a scoop for the ride home or take a pint home and share the love with your family.

Goose the Market is one of those unique, local places you’ll only find in Indianapolis.  I highly recommend it to both friends and family.  The best part (at least for me) is that it’s right down the road from CITYOGA, where Jenni and I take yoga classes all the time.  If you live in Indiana and haven’t tried it yet, stop on by and I’m sure you’ll become a regular like me.

There is a gem of a bar hiding inside the City Market in downtown, Indianapolis.  It’s called the Tomlinson Tap Room, and I might have never gone there if I hadn’t been assigned to take pictures for Where Magazine.  I have to say, that would have been a tragedy!  This place is GREAT!

It’s not very large, located up in the mezzanine of the City Market, but it’s got some fantastic beer on tap.  The best part is, it’s all local Indiana beer!  With its interior design crafted from reconditioned materials—and the historic setting of the Indianapolis City Market as its backdrop, Tomlinson Tap is the ideal place for craft beer enthusiasts to unwind and enjoy full-flavored brews that are both traditional and distinctive.

I have to admit, I stole that last line from their website, but it’s quite accurate.  You can try craft beers from all over Indiana.  Of course, I started off with my old favorite, Sunlight Cream Ale from Sun King Brewery.

Having a cold beer at the end of a hard work day is pretty awesome, and that’s exactly what everyone working in downtown Indianapolis can do.  In fact, while I was there a group of people who work with my wife at the City County building across the street stopped by.

Including my mother in law, Barb!  She joined me for a nice, cold beer.  Really, I couldn’t ask for a better mother in law.

For my second beer, I tried the Elector, made by the New Albanian Brewing Company.  It’s an Imperial Red Ale, and boy is it tasty.

One notable (and cool) thing about the Tomlinson Tap Room is that they have Indiana craft beer “passports,” which you can keep right there at the bar so you can keep track of all the local beers you’ve tasted.  I honestly had no idea there were so many breweries in Indiana.  I’m excited to try them all, one at a time.

Reminiscent of your favorite neighborhood pub, Tomlinson Tap Room offers an intimate atmosphere as comfortable as your favorite chair.  It’s a perfect respite after a long day at work or as a weekend spot to gather with friends.  As you appreciate the art of craft beer, you can craft another Hoosier tradition: good times with good friends.

This weekend my friend Rorye got married to her best friend Dan, and guess who they chose to do their wedding photography?  ME!  Woo!  I had a BLAST shooting Rorye and Dan’s wedding.  It took place in the town I grew up in, Greenfield, IN, which of course makes sense since I went to high school with Rorye.  The best part is, I got to test out my brand new NIKON D300S!

There she is getting ready.  The church was set up perfectly for photography with tons of natural lighting, which was great for all those close-up “getting ready” shots.  Here’s a smattering of some of my favorites…

While Rorye was upstairs getting ready, her husband-to-be Dan was getting ready downstairs.  I love these shots of them both getting ready, reflected in their respective mirrors.  Why do women always get the better deal?  Rorye’s mirror is WAY better!

With all the preparations complete, the wedding was ready.  I call this shot “Here Comes the Bride!”

What a beautiful church.  I highly recommend it.  It’s called the Garden Chapel and it’s located right in the middle of downtown Greenfield.

It was a beautiful ceremony, filled with love and laughter.

After the ceremony, it was back inside for some traditional wedding party pictures.  Love the one above and below of the girls and guys.

Yes, I made them jump.  Always wanted to do that!

After the traditional pictures, we all headed over to the American Legion building for the reception.  Rorye crocheted hearts as favors for all the attendees.  I have no idea how long it took her, but they were a huge success.

The space was actually really great.  I love all the flags!

After dinner, it was time for some dancing, starting off with the traditional first dance of the newlyweds.

The next few hours were filled with merriment by all, including myself!

A big thanks to Rorye and Dan for letting me photograph their wedding.  I had a lot of fun and captured a TON of pictures, only some of which are shown here.  I love how everything turned out, and I especially love my awesome new camera!  If any of you blogstalkers out there have a wedding coming up, better book me now, because my camera is ready and waiting!

I just had the absolute pleasure of updating the website of a fantastic yoga teacher, Ame Wren.  Doesn’t she have the coolest name ever?  Fittingly, the new website incorporates a wren.  Love it!

Based in Boston, Ame is a self-proclaimed “yoga mutt.”  She is known for lacing her classes with humor while instilling the importance of proper alignment and smart transitioning to craft a sustainable yoga practice. Ame is a Lululemon Ambassador and was recently named Best Yoga Instructor in the 2010 Boston magazine “Best of Boston” awards. She leads teacher trainings and retreats nationally and internationally and is a featured teacher at Wanderlust Festival.

So, in essence, Ame is pretty awesome.  I’m glad I had the chance to make her a new website that incorporates her personality and style.  Please check it out… check her out… and let me know what you think!

Tonight, Jenni and I had the pleasure of dining at the St. Elmo Steak House, one of Indianapolis’s most recognizable restaurants.  It is the oldest Indianapolis steakhouse in its original location, and has earned a national reputation for its excellent steaks, seafood, chops and professional service.  The purpose of this visit was to photograph their world famous Shrimp Cocktail, but I went ahead and took pictures of absolutely everything we ate.

When you first get the Shrimp Cocktail, you don’t really see the shrimp, but after using the little cocktail fork to dig through the delicious sauce, it’s easy to find the jumbo sized shrimp.

Yum!

It paired perfectly with the seasonal Goose Island beer, Summertime.  You have to be careful and eat it slowly, though, because the sauce is super spicy.

While I devoured the Shrimp Cocktail, Jenni got a traditional House Salad.  All in all, it looked like a pretty great salad.  No complaints from Jenni.

For the main course, I got the Filet Mignon, cooked medium.  It tasted delicious, cooked to perfection by the talented chefs of St. Elmo’s.  This is one steak you don’t want to ruin by adding steak sauce, because it tastes so good on its own.  The green beans and mashed potatoes were delicious, too.

While I had the Filet Mignon, Jenni had the Grilled Salmon.

Personally, I don’t like fish, but this looks pretty good.

For dessert, I had the Creme Brulee.  It might have been the best Creme Brulee I’ve ever eaten.  Cracking the top is my favorite!

So creamy.  Isn’t Creme Brulee a fun dessert?

Jenni had the Chocolate Cherry Bread Pudding, though honestly, I had most of it.  It was too good to pass up when she couldn’t eat the whole thing herself.

I have to say, dinner at the St. Elmo Steak House was just as good as it always is.  I’ve eaten here many times and it truly is an Indianapolis landmark restaurant.  The best part is, every Sunday you can get the same three course dinners you’ve seen here for a mere $30!  Not too shabby, blogstalkers.  Not shabby at all.  The next time you’re in the mood for some steak, you should give St. Elmo’s a try (especially if it’s Sunday).

In March I flew out to the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health for a week to film 5 days of Sadie Nardini’s latest Teacher Training Immersion.  Over three months later, I have managed to edit the 40+ hours of in-depth footage down to 20+ hours of amazing yoga information.  It’s all been edited, rasterized, compressed and uploaded to her site, where it is now for sale.  Woo!  This replaces her old Teacher Training, which desperately needed to be updated.

Today, Jenni and I went to Pizzology, a great pizzeria and pub just north of Indianapolis in Carmel.  Shot some great food photography for Where Magazine.  This is a great place to get some delicious pizza, fresh from the oven, and the staff is delightful!

For starters, we got some of Tony’s Fritters, which are zucchini fritters with parmesan reggiano and truffle oil.  Yum!  This was a great recommendation from our waiter, Josh.

For our main course, we went with the Lombardy.  Every pizza at Pizzology is 13 inches, and this one had prosciutto, arugula, smoked mozzarella and parmesan reggiano.  It was delicious!

Pizzology also has this cool bar/window area where you can watch your pizza being made!

For dessert, we were talked into the delicious, artisanal gelato.  We had the Swiss chocolate, which I highly recommend.

All in all, Pizzology is a great pizzeria, featuring some of the best pizza in Indianapolis.  If you haven’t tried it out yet, it’s worth the drive (if you don’t already live on the north side).  The staff is great and the food is delicious.  Five stars!

Ariel Joseph Towne is the Feng Shui Guy.  www.thefengshuiguy.com

Called “an alchemist of possibility,” Ariel takes stagnant spaces in people’s homes and minds and transforms them into positive, intentional spaces. He makes a room come alive, and is an internationally recognized feng shui expert. Also, he’s a pretty cool guy, all around.

I met Ariel while shooting some yoga videos with Sadie Nardini out in New York.  I fell in love with Ariel’s positive attitude right away, and I knew I wanted to work with him, so I offered to re-design his website.  At the time, I had NO IDEA how much work it would take!  I spent a ridiculous amount of time on this website, not only because it had to be functional to the extreme, but it also had to incorporate all of the elements of feng shui.

When you first visit, you’re presented with water, an important element of feng shui.  Not only that, but it is “flowing” water.  If you move your mouse over the water, it moves back and forth. Then, as you work your way through the site, you experience the remaining five elements of feng shui- wood, fire, earth and metal.  Each section has a different header and color-scheme, to maximize the shui.

The tea was absolutely delicious! The tea sandwiches were dainty and superb! The scones were TO DIE FOR. Seriously, they might have been the best scones I’ve ever had. All in all, afternoon tea at the Canterbury Hotel is awesome. I would and probably will go back, even if it’s in a hotel! For those visiting from out of town, this is one reason to stay there.

I am SO EXCITED to share this next site with you. I’ve been working hard on this site for what seems like months now, fidgeting and editing and making it perfect. Then, when it was finally designed, I had to switch the whole site to a new hosting server for speed issues!!! (Network Solutions SUCKS for WordPress, by the way) So, now that it’s switched, the site is AWESOME and SPEEDY to boot!

Little Flower Yoga specializes in yoga for children. They create unique and engaging classes that develop students’ mental, physical and emotional wellness. Awesome! The owner, Jenn, is really nice, too. I’m glad I could make all the changes and give her exactly the site Little Flower Yoga deserves, though I have to say figuring out how to give each section (including WordPress pages AND categories), their own unique color took awhile.

And you thought I hadn’t been busy… Hah! This is ANOTHER new design I’ve been working on lately. This is the new website design for The Bethlehem House, an Indianapolis based not-for-profit agency that helps individuals who are adversely affected by substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, homelessness and an impoverished life. Their old website was severely lacking, and didn’t even mention the fact that they are a 501c3 organization (very important for donations). Well, the new website is modern and sleek, not to mention immensely more manageable since it’s WordPress based.

Another day, another update. This is another project I’ve been working on. This is the new website and blog for Nikki Myers, my good friend and owner of CITYOGA School of Yoga and Health (which I also designed!).

Nikki is an accomplished teacher and practitioner on the path of Yoga. A unique focus of her path has been the integration of yoga in healing. In fact, Nikki came to yoga in the midst of her own health crisis, but quickly realized yoga was centering and firmly grounding her in a scared space that allowed healing to happen far beyond the physical.

Born out of her personal struggles with addiction, Nikki is also a co-founder of the acclaimed Yoga of 12-Step Recovery program (also designed by me!), featured in the New York Times and Yoga Journal. She is quick to tell the world, “The 12-step program and Yoga saved my life – one is my lifeboat, the other my launching pad.”

I designed this blog to represent Nikki and her personality. Powered by WordPress, I tried to make it as down-to-earth and “earthy” as possible. Nikki regularly goes to Africa through the “Off the Mat, Into the World” organization, and I wanted to capture the essence of Africa and dirt. I hope you like it! There was a LOT of back and forth before we got to the final product, but in the end Julie had a video she was happy to include with her press release. I’m looking forward to working with her on future projects.

This is another great example of how you can create a video without going to extreme production lengths. I used the color scheme of Julie’s new website, coupled with some photography of her and her new collection. I wrote up a script based on the press release and Julie voiced it over. Added some music (from Ferris Bueller, if you hadn’t noticed) and VOILA!

Short videos like these are perfect for getting a message or brand out there.

What did you think? Like them? Personally, I love creating videos like this because it definitely keeps costs down. When you’re working with graphics alone, you don’t have nearly as many production elements (camera, lighting, etc.). Also, I can create a video like this for anyone, no matter where they’re at! If I don’t have to shoot the video, I don’t have to be there in person. So, if any Australians out there need me to make a video like this, hit me up!

Opa!

Hello blogstalkers! It’s been quite some time since I’ve posted, but believe me, it’s not because I haven’t had anything worth posting about. Since starting Seegull Media full time at the start of this year, I’ve been working non-stop! Now that I’m FINALLY starting to get caught up, you can expect to see everything I’ve been working on as I get it all posted. First, which is actually the most recent, is dinner at the Santorini Greek Kitchen in Fountain Square, Indianapolis. My wife and I had dinner there tonight because I was tasked with taking some photographs for Where Magazine. As you can see, we started off with the famous flaming cheese, Saganaki! Our server, Jeffrey, was an absolute delight the entire evening.

After we devoured the Saganaki, we moved on to the traditional Greek Salads. You have to love all that Feta cheese!

My favorite part is the olive. Jenni gave me hers because she doesn’t like them (lucky me!)

After the salads came the main courses. Jenni got the Moussaka.

The Traditional Gyros! I just loooooove that meat. It’s a lamb and beef combination, slowly roasted for optimal flavor.

I’m sorry if you’re vegetarian, but I can’t help myself. Food porn!

After that, I thought it couldn’t get much better, but then came dessert.

Jeffrey talked us into the Galaktabouriko. Don’t ask me how to pronounce it. I couldn’t to save my life. But boy was it good!

It’s a sweet Greek custard with phyllo crust on the top and the bottom, garnished with cinnamon.

It was the perfect end to a perfect meal. The Santorini Greek Kitchen has some of the best Greek food in all of Indianapolis, and has continually been rated one of the TOP 25 Restaurants in Indianapolis by Indianapolis Monthly Magazine. It was also chosen “Best Greek Retaurant” by the readers and staff at NUVO weekly newspaper. I highly recommend you visit if you haven’t… and if you have, go again!

With that said, I can make video podocasts for you! In fact, I’ve created over 40 unique video podcasting shows, from cooking to yoga. Here are three examples of a series I just shot for Sadie, right in her apartment in NYC.

All together, there are 21 episodes. We shot all of them in a few hours time, and now Sadie is selling them on the website “DailyOm.” The beauty of short episodes like this is that you can sell them individually, and you can also package them together into one long workout. If you put all 21 episodes together, it equals an hour and a half workout! If Sadie weren’t using DailyOm, we could have easily sold these episodes on her own site individually and as a package. The benefit of DailyOm is that they already have a huge subscriber base, so getting the word out is a lot easier.

Nestled on a quiet street in the Fountain Square District of Indianapolis is a quaint deli called the Square Rootz Deli. Jenni and I have driven by many times before, but it wasn’t until I got called by Where Magazine to take some pictures that we knew it was there. I have to say, we’ve been missing out. The Square Rootz Deli is some of the best comfort deli-style food you can get in Indianapolis.

It’s hard to tell from the outside, but the Square Rootz Deli is AWESOME! I was told they’re going to be getting a new spinning sign in a few weeks, which should definitely help people know they are there.

When you first walk in, you’re greeted by a pretty big space with lots of tables and seating. I love the atmosphere and decor.

On the left wall are some vintage LPs which you can buy. It’s a nice added touch. The entire wall is also filled with local artists works. All the businesses in Fountain Square are all about local community.

One of the best parts about the Square Rootz Deli are all the sodas and pops you can get. Personally, I went with a Bulldog Root Beer. Jenni went with a Diet Creme Soda. Yum!

This is the owner, and also our waiter for the day, Jeff Reuter. He’s a great, personable guy who runs a great establishment.

I also got a side of Green Beans. Yeah, that’s what I call comfort food.

And I have to mention again the crafted Root Beer. I wanted another, but alas it was the last one!

Jenni had the Rootz Grilled Cheese Sandwhich with a side of Cheesy Hash Brown Potatoes and a Diet Creme Soda.

For desert we had the very last piece of Chocolate Cake. Yum! The icing was perfectly ooey gooey.

All in all, the Square Rootz Deli is an amazing place to eat. Jenni and I will definitely be going back, especially because all of this only cost a little over $20! Great deal! I hope your mouths are watering, blogstalkers. I just ate it and I wish I could go back already.

The first big project for me as I started doing Seegull Media full time was the new CITYOGA website. We launched it a few days before the new year, which to me (and the lovely ladies who own and operate CITYOGA), was the perfect time. There’s no better way to start off a new year than with a fantastic new website.

The best part of the CITYOGA site is that it incorporates Healcode widgets. Most yoga studios use a company called Mind Body Online to manage their schedule, teachers, workshops, clients, etc. Before Healcode, you would always be taken away from the main website to the Mind Body site. With Healcode widgets, you stay on the CITYOGA site and the widgets populate the page with the Mind Body information. It’s pretty awesome, so if any yoga studios out there are reading this and you want Healcode to be incorporated into your own site, I’m your man.

Working with CITYOGA has been a pleasure. Nikki Myers, the owner, and her daughter Mysh, are Jenni’s and my new best friends. Can’t wait to eat lunch with them this weekend! A big THANKS to them for all that they do, and for bringing yoga to Indianapolis.

Well, blogstalkers, by the look of all the recent posts (or lack thereof), it would seem that I haven’t been very busy lately. In reality, that couldn’t be further from the truth! In fact, it’s BECAUSE I’ve been so busy that I haven’t had a chance to update my own site and blog for so long. One project that I’ve been working on that is finally nearing completion is the new site for Pure Bikram Yoga, www.purebikramyoga.com.

When Tedd Li, the designer for PURE, came to me last month, I was thrilled. He had seen Sadie Nardini’s website, which he LOVED, so he came to me wanting the same designer for PURE Bikram Yoga, located in Austin, TX. With much back and forth and many, many, many conversations and changes, the final result is something to be proud of. There are still a few sections that need to updated, which I’m waiting on content for, but I would love for you all to check it out and let me know what you think.

Recently, one of my favorite restaurants in the city left; the Scholar’s Inn. Luckily, Mesh an Mass Avenue took its place! (And Mesh is equally, if not more, delicious)

This dipping sauce is like, WHOA good.

One of the better parts of Mesh is their specialty cocktail selection. I promise to update this post later with the proper name, but alas I didn’t think to write it down. This is the pretty drink Jen selected.

I, however, got this delicious concoction. I believe it actually had apricot jam in it. Can you believe!?

And yes, that’s a fire all blurry in the background. Mesh has an outdoor fireplace which is perfect for the fall weather.

For an appetizer, Jenni and I ordered the Pommes Frites. It comes with three delicious sauces- black pepper mayo, honey-chipotle and their house ketchup. I couldn’t decide which was my favorite!

For the main entree, I ordered the Cuban Chicken sandwich. I tried to be healthy and get some fruit, which was fresh and tasty.

Jen ordered the Crab Cakes. Is your mouth watering?

For dessert, I believe this was called the Napoleon. The sauce that was drizzled over it was a caramel/peanut butter mixture. It was so decadent!

So, while I’m saddened that the Scholar’s Inn is gone, I am quite happy at what replaced it. Mesh is a great new restaurant and I highly recommend you check it out. You can visit their website at www.meshonmass.com.

Jenni and I had the pleasure of eating at Tastings last week, and it was delicious. Tastings is a wine bar in downtown Indianapolis, right outside Circle Center’s Atrium. Tastings is a one-of-a-kind wine bar offering new levels of experience to everyone from the novice to the sommelier.

Tastings has these fancy wine dispensers that automatically dispense your chosen wine into your glass for you to taste. Ahh, that explains the name! Tastings! How clever!

In order to have the wine dispensed, you have to use these fancy cards.

The prices varied depending on which type you decided to taste. It could get pretty expensive tasting all the wines. The trick is to find a wine you like and order a bottle.

I forget which wine we chose (Jenni chose it), but it was scrumptious. After we tasted our fill, it was time to order some food.

I had a delicious flatbread pizza with figs and goat cheese. Yum!

Jen had a gourmet sandwich. I love the little toothpicks!

These are my friends, Morgan and Ben.

They are very much in love.

Like, ridiculously in love.

Okay guys, get a room…

And we did! All of us, that is, down at the French Licks Springs Hotel. Jenni and I went down there with Morgan and Ben a few weekends ago to take these fantastic engagement pictures. That’s right! Morgan and Ben are getting hitched. You might remember them from a previous blog entry where they had a speakeasy engagement party. Well, these photographs are little better than simple party shots.

We started off taking pictures at the West Bayden Springs Hotel (right down the road from our hotel). There’s a lot of history there, which I won’t go into right now, but it makes for some glamorous photography.

And the lighting is gorgeous in the atrium, which is essentially a giant dome.

Built in 1902 and with its one-of-a-kind domed atrium spanning 200 feet, the West Bayden Springs Hotel has been called the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” Oops! I forgot I said I wouldn’t go into the history!

That’s right. Let’s bring the focus back on the cute engaged couple.

After we left the atrium, we took some shots throughout the rest of the hotel.

I thought this one was really artsy and romantic.

And this was a fun angle! Wow, check out that amazing mosaic floor tiling. They don’t make things quite like that anymore.

After we finished inside, we headed outside to the gardens.

The sun was starting to set, which is the perfect time of day for pictures. Us photographers call it the “golden hour.”

As the sun went behind a hill, we decided to take one last shot before heading over to the train graveyard.

I think this might be my all time favorite photograph of the session.

I think all the train shots turned out freaking amazing, if I do say so myself. They’re very rustic and vintage. I love the color of the sky in this picture and the rust on the back of the train car.

Look! We found a caboose!

As we wind things down and the day ends, we think to ourselves, “Job well done.”

And off they walk, hand in hand like lovers do.

This is Jessalyn, who recently finished her yoga teacher training and is now an instructor at Cityoga. Guess what? She needs business cards! So I took some pictures that can (hopefully) make for some great new business cards for her. Here are a few of my favorites.

I was very impressed with Jessalyn’s ability to do the splits. Alas, this is something I will never be able to do. I’m also glad she was so willing to climb up onto this semi-dangerous ledge!

The first time I met Jessalyn was in a yoga class, and I instantly fell in love with her myriad of tattoos. The wings on her back set her apart.

This website is for a cause I am proud to have worked with. Yoga of 12-Step Recovery is a combination of yoga and the well known addictions program known as 12-Steps. My wife, Jenni, is training right now to become an addictions counselor, so I know all about the 12-Step program and how it relates to addictions. I also believe that adding yoga to the mix is a brilliant idea.

The husband and wife team of Nikki Myers and Nate Rush are the geniuses behind Yoga of 12-Step Recovery (Y12SR). Nikki is an accomplished yoga therapist, teacher, somatic experiencing practitioner and also one of my favorite people ever. She is the owner of CITYOGA School of Yoga and Health in Indianapolis, IN, and her attitude towards life is contagious.

The amazing thing about this program is that, in a word, the characteristics and effects of addiction could easily be described as separation. Addictive behaviors separate and disconnect us from ourselves, our loved ones, our environment and so much more. Conversely, yoga itself means union, integration, balance. Yoga and its practices teach the fine art of balancing our multidimensional lives while living in a complex world. The 12-step program approaches addiction at a cognitive level, while yoga includes a somatic approach. The combining of the two creates a model that truly addresses addiction as the physical, mental and spiritual disease that it is. Yoga of 12-Step Recovery recognizes that yoga and its practices are a part of a holistic recovery program and rather than a replacement, it provides adjunct tools to address the physical, mental and spiritual disease of addiction.

I did my best to design a website that gives all the information of the group, including meeting times, intensive dates and training dates, all while embodying the hopeful nature of recovery. Please, check it out and let me know what you think.

I love engagement pictures, especially impromptu engagement pictures! Meet Dax and Amber, recently engaged and blissfully happy. I took all of these shots on a short, 40 minute walk through Garfield Park. It’s easy to take great pictures with subjects that are in love as these two are. I tried to capture that in these shots. I hope you enjoy them.

Venus and Mars Fashion Exchange is a new vintage consignment shop located in the up and coming historic Fountain Square district in Indianapolis, IN. I had a lot of fun working on this website. I designed the colors based off the signage outside the store, and I built the logo to match as well. This is a WordPress website, which was a unique challenge because I was working with PHP as well as HTML and CSS. Meet Katie. She just started her Senior year of high school. What better way to start the year than to get a slew of Senior Pictures taken? That’s exactly what we did last Sunday. Here are 30 of my favorite shots for the day. Enjoy!

You might remember Morgan and Ben from the recent post where I had some fun Photoshopping an image of them in order to make a poster for their engagement party. Well, guess who got to take pictures at the engagement paryt! Me, baby, me. Check out the happy couple.

This is one of my all time favorite pictures for the evening. Nothing says “classy” like a dress shirt, a vest and swim trunks. Ben is bad ass.

And of course I have to throw in some shots of my beautiful wife, Jenni. She’s one of the Maids of Honor and helped plan this whole shindig! I’m very proud of her for all the work she put into the event.

The new addition (girl on the left) would be the other Maid of Honor, Alli. These three have been besties for a long, long time.

I have been working on this site for a long time now. Sadie Nardini is by far one of my favorite people in existence. I first met her while I was working out in New York. She was my first introduction into the world of yoga, and because she was my first I have been forever spoiled. Sadie is a master. She can speak clear, concise directions while doing the most difficult yoga poses (like crow pose), all without losing a beat. I’ve always thought she needed a better website, and I jumped at the opportunity to design something worthy of her awesomeness.

Please check out her newly design site and let me know what you think. The moving header was especially difficult, but it was a lot of fun putting it together! Sadie is a New York yogi and I wanted a compelling header, and what’s more compelling than a 3D skyline? This site was a lot of fun to put together and a vast improvement over her old MobileMe site. One of the projects I’ve been working on lately is for Gig Coin, a new online service coming soon where people can get and give GIGS! I’ve been busy creating logos and icons to define the brand. Here is the logo I came up with, which required no revisions since my clients LOVED it! I love getting things right the first time.

I tried to use colors that amplified the brand. Green is representative of money, and I used a dark background because it seems more sophisticated and modern to me. The coin had to be gold. It was hard trying to figure out a way to incorporate some action into the word gig, but as soon as I turned the “i” upside down I knew I had a winner.

I hope everyone out there in the blogosphere will let me know what they think of my latest design, and if you  need a logo designed you should hit me up soon before my rates increase from all the demand starting to come in!

Alright everyone, this is a throw back. I made this video during my senior year at Ball State University. I was tasked with creating a fictitious wedding videography company, which I called “Memories in Motion.” Catchy name, right? Well, this is the promotional video I made for the company. I actually attended a friend’s wedding to get the footage I needed for this. I believe it demonstrates quite well what I can do for you if you would like for me to shoot video of your wedding.

Keep in mind. I made this video more than four years ago. I’ve gained a TON of experience since then. And please, disregard my ridiculous facial hair. I don’t know what I was thinking.

Where has Adam been? Why hasn’t he been updating? Well, it’s because I’ve been super busy tearing out carpet and installing bamboo floors in my living room! What started out as painting one wall a day, turned into painting the entire room in one weekend, which then in turn turned into tearing out the carpet and putting in new floors. It took almost two weeks, but the result is beautiful. It is now the best room in the house.

Jen chose a complimentary purple for the curtains to go with the new bamboo floors and grey walls. I like her choice.

I even moved my computer into the alcove, which seems as though it were built to fit my desk perfectly. If you’re ever wondering where all the magic of Seegull Media happens, it happens right here. I hope you enjoy seeing these pictures as much as I enjoy the room itself (although I’m not sure if that’s possible).

This is my nephew, Nathan. He is almost an exact replica of what I looked like as a little kid. He’s about to turn four years old on June 6th, and in celebration I took him out to take some pictures!

He’s such a fun little guy. His Grammie (my Mom) dressed him up in one of his favorite t-shirts. I can still hear him running around saying “I’m Buzz! I’m Buzz!”

It’s very hard to get him to smile naturally at the camera, but he’s great at looking away and smiling at Grammie!

I love this shot. I hope when he grows up he’ll appreciate all the pictures I’ve taken of him over the years.

This is his usual look… SKEPTICAL.

But when he wants to be, he’s a little ham.

Here is is with my Dad, his Papaw! I love my Dad. I hope I’m half as great as he is when I’m older and have kids/grandchildren of my own.

I was having dinner with my mother-in-law the other night (who recently discovered twitter) and she read one of my tweets about “being able to turn still images into a video commercial.” She LOVED the idea because she had to create a commercial for a class she’s currently attending at Indiana Wesleyan University. I, being the loving son-in-law that I am, made this commercial for her based on a script she wrote out. I designed the logo for the fake company and I’m the one who shot all the pictures. Enjoy! Today my wife and I had the pleasure of dining at the Creation Cafe. It is located in the historic Buggs’ Temple, one of the oldest church buildings in the Indianapolis area and the signature building at the north end of the downtown Canal Walk. I’ve passed by it many times while running around the canal, but today was the first opportunity I have had to actually go inside and see what’s there.

Walking up to the building you can see and feel the historical nature of the place. Today you’ll find two distinct restaurants housed in what used to be a church. Upstairs is Euphoria, and on the main floor is the Creation Cafe.

As soon as you walk into the Creation Cafe, you immediately feel at home. Everywhere you look are warm colors that invite you to relax and enjoy yourself. There are bookcases, lounge chairs and each table is decorated with a different color/pattern!

There are twinkle lights on the walls and fun chandeliers hanging from the ceilings.

Thought was put into each and every table in the entire restaurant. I especially love this little table in the corner. There are butterflies on the walls!

One of the best parts of the Creation Cafe is this wall. The entire wall is filled with doodles, colorings, names and signatures. Anyone can add to it, creating their own little creation at the Creation Cafe.

Jenni patiently waited for me as I took pictures of the entire restaurant. She’s such a good wife.

This is a picture of Tom, our waiter. He was soft-spoken, but incredibly cool. All of the staff seemed relaxed and laid-back, but Tom was the chillest of the chill.

I ordered the Cuban. It was filled with good ol’ pulled pork, ham, Swiss cheese, mustard, mayo and Creation Cafe’s homemade pickles, all grilled on ciabatta bread. And the fries were seasoned to perfection.

Jen ordered the Gobbler, which was smoked turkey breast with havarti cheese, lettuce, tomato, bacon, avacado and mayo. She let me taste her salad, too, which was DELICIOUS. The house dressing is probably the best I’ve ever tasted.

For dessert, we had the Hoppy Cake, carrot cake with cream cheese icing. It definitely made Jen and me “hoppy.”

Lastly, one of the best parts of the Creation Cafe is the view. Located at the northern tip of the downtown Canal Walk, it has a fantastic view of the city. I actually came back at night to take this final picture, but I thought it would make the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. This might have been the first time Jen and I ate at the Creation Cafe, but it definitely won’t be the last.

Tonight, Jenni (my beautiful wife) and I had dinner at Scotty’s Brewhouse. It is one of our FAVORITE Indianapolis restaurants. I documented our delectable journey with pictures, because one or two of these images might end up being featured in a new magazine called Where Indianapolis. Let’s cross our fingers!

First things first… I had to have a beer! I mean… it is a brewhouse afterall. I decided to go with a local beer, the Sun King Wee Mac Scottish Ale, brewed right here in Indianapolis by Sun King. The first sip was like heaven in my mouth. Wee Mac is an easy drinking brown ale that has a nice hazelnut character with rich toffee undertones.

Although I got a beer, Scotty’s Brewhouse has a wide selection of quality liqueurs. I thought this was a pretty picture.

All the bartenders were laid back and had great attitudes. It looked like they had a lot of fun working at Scotty’s.

I decided to become a Mug Club Member. It is a special program Scotty’s has where you can buy a special mug for $9.95, and every Sunday there are special deals on beers, but only if you’re a Mug Club Member. They call it the Sunday Mug Club Special. Another cool thing is that you can rent your very own hook at Scotty’s and keep your mug hanging there with pride.

Guest appearance: Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln helped me drink my beer.

Scotty’s has a great atmosphere. Enter Scotty’s Brewhouse and you will be greeted with old gas burning lanterns, solid brick interiors, a hand-made oak bar, tables and stools, friendly faces and ice cold beer.

My beautiful wife joined me for dinner. Jen is the best companion to have on a food journey like this. We are both such foodies!

Before long our food arrived, brought to us by our lovely waitress, Ashley. Ashley was very positive and friendly (she didn’t mind me taking TONS of pictures at all!). It was a treat being served by someone with such a great attitude.

Jen had the mouthwatering Shewman Special. It’s a half pound, hand-pattied grilled burger, complete with peanut butter, jalapenos, cheddar cheese and bacon. Yes, you heard me right… peanut butter!

I almost wish I had ordered the same thing. Plus, the waffle fries are to die for.

I ordered the Mo’Fo’ Buffalo Chicken Wrap, and man was it SPICY! Honey wheat tortilla, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, ranch dressing, chopped, breaded chicken feathers tossed in mo’fo hot sauce. De-Li-Cious.

My side? Mac N Cheese!

This is seriously the best mac n cheese I have ever eaten. It was loaded with Cajun spices and bleu cheese crumbles.

For dessert, we had the Brew-Homemade German Chocolate Cake. It’s made with a rich, chocolaty icing and topped with crushed toffee bar. No coconut!

All in all, it was a scrumptious night filled with tasty treats. If you haven’t been to Scotty’s Brewhouse, you need to hit it up SOON. And in case you were wondering, no I did not get paid by Scotty’s to rave about their food… I just love it… a lot.

Dakota, or Cody as he likes to be called, is a talented young man. He recently graduated high school and I had the pleasure of taking his Senior Pictures. We headed down to the canal in downtown Indianapolis for a two hour stroll, which resulted in the following pictures. Enjoy!

I love steps. This is a classic Senior Picture pose.

The lighting was perfect.

This is Cody’s brand new car, a present from his loving Mother for graduating high school. I must say, I was impressed. It is a BEAST. It’s fun to see Cody behind the wheel of such an impressive vehicle.

If you haven’t been to the Canal, it is a remarkable place. In fact, it’s my favorite place in the entire city. You can find a dozen picture-perfect photo spots within a twenty foot radius. Hopefully one day I’ll have a brand new office close by!

Grass, stone, blue brick, red brick… the Canal has it all! And we didn’t even make it a quarter of the way around it!

This is a fun little cartoon I was asked to make for Cripe Architects and Engineers. They are bidding on a project to be the company in charge of move management for St. Francis Hospital. Based on a very vague definition of what they wanted (basic plot with a “cartoony” feel), this is what I came up with. When I was a little kid I used to hoard all of my belongings. I grew attached to my toys and I would often give them names and attribute human feelings to them. One time I even opted to buy a small Lego set because I felt bad that I secretly wanted the bigger set more. I actually felt pity for Legos!

Luckily, I grew out of this need to acquire physical possessions. Once a month I now try to get rid of things I no longer need and purge them from my life. I revel in the simplicity and I thrive in a Spartan environment. However, I recently discovered I have a dark secret. While I managed to rid myself of my obsession for acquiring physical things, in truth I have merely shifted the focus of my desires to the digital world.

I now find myself constantly striving to acquire and grow my digital wealth. Every logo I create is added to my portfolio. Every website I design is a testament to my abilities as a designer. Every podcast I shoot and every photograph I take is added to the stockpile of my ever-growing digital legacy. I must create! I need to create! More, more, more!

Ok, so I’m being overly dramatic. Acquiring digital wealth isn’t a bad thing. The more I create the better I get, and the best part is that these designs, photographs and videos don’t take up any physical space. If I need more space all I need is a slightly bigger hard drive or more bandwidth to host it on my site.

It’s true, I am an obsessive person by nature, but this shift from focusing on the physical to the digital is one way I’ve found to deal with it. While the thought of deleting any little byte of content I’ve created makes me shudder, at least I can get rid of that denim jacket I never wear anymore.

As I was looking through the pictures to compile the last post about the Stereo Deluxe Photo Shoot, I really liked the way it looked as I scrolled through the images quickly. So, I made a video out of them, speeding up the entire photo session into just over 2 minutes. This is the result of over 750 pictures taken over a 3 hour period. Enjoy! This past weekend I had the pleasure of taking some band shots of Stereo Deluxe. Stereo Deluxe is a kick ass Indianapolis band and if you haven’t heard them play yet, you need to. The band consists of Jay Elliot, Ben Tatum, Luke Schneider and Matt Hogan. We had a lot of fun going around and taking shots at the IUPUI campus in downtown Indy. These shots were all taken in a period of 2-3 hours. Check them out!

This elevated walkway was actually the first spot we used to take pictures. I love the lighting and the shadows, not to mention the futuristic shapes of the architecture around them.

Stereo Deluxe has been rocking since 1998. The band spent their formative years developing their sound under various band names playing literally hundreds of house parties, youth centers and dive bars to anyone who would listen. The result of their journey is an energized, raucous, and fully-realized rock sound.

These might be my favorite shots of the entire day. We headed over to the empty Carrol Stadium where we found these bleachers. I stood in the middle of the field and zoomed in to get these incredible shots. I love the rust on the bleachers and the textures, plus Stereo Deluxe makes looking bad ass seem easy.

After the bleachers, we headed down to the track for some fun.

Ready… Set… GO!

After the track, we headed over to an empty parking garage (it is the weekend, after all). These shots prove you can take some incredible pictures practically anywhere.

After the parking garage we took some final pictures on the iconic pyramid fountain in the middle of IUPUI campus. It wasn’t on, which allowed us to take advantage and climb all over it.

I love this final shot because it’s like the band is saying “This is our land” or something like that. Again, I had a lot of fun with Stereo Deluxe and you have GOT to go see them in concert. This is Jared Thompson, one awesome brother-in-law. He’s graduating this year, and I took his senior pictures. These are those pictures.

Jared loves to hunt, so we started out with some hunting shots. I was a little intimidated by his gun. I shoot photos, not deer.

Me: “Is that gun loaded?”
Jared: “Yes.”
Me: “Is the safety on?”
Jared: “I think so… Yes.”
Me: “Please don’t shoot me.”

After the hunting shots, we headed to downtown Indianapolis for some more classy photography. We had a lot of fun, despite the slight rain.

This one was just silly.

After we finished up taking pictures in downtown Indianapolis, we headed over to the Canal, one of my all time favorite spots for pictures. We didn’t get to stay there long before it started pouring, but we got a few shots in, including the one above and the two below.

Lastly, I set up my portable white seemless backdrop. I can put up and take the entire set-up down in around 20 minutes! I used four lights and got some great final shots.

The social media landscape is vast and confusing, as illustrated in the diagram above. There are websites and services out there for practically anything. This boundless social sphere is difficult to understand, let alone navigate and use to your advantage. Luckily for me (and you), I just attended a two-day conference in Chicago all about how to align your brand through social media. If you have the proper understanding, you can utilize the various social media tools and outlets to maximize your brand exposure, gain SEO ranking, increase traffic to your site and better communicate with your customers. The following CMO’s Guide to the Social Landscape is one of the best tools I gained from the conference:

This guide provides a road map even a simpleton can understand. Green is good. Red is bad. For instance, what is twitter good for? Customer Communication and Brand Exposure. Is YouTube good for SEO? Yes! Will Flickr increase traffic to your site? Probably not. Whatever your end goal is, whether it be search engine optimization or brand exposure, this guide serves as a map on what social media outlets will help you reach your goal.

Personally, my current goal is to optimize Seegull Media for Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Looking at this guide you can see what I’ll be focusing on in the next few days. Don’t worry, I’ll keep you posted.

Well, it took nearly a month to complete and it put everything else on hold, but I am proud to announce that THE CENTRAL NINE CAREER CENTER WEBSITE IS COMPLETE!!!!! This is the first major non-flash website I have made (with the exception of the Seegull Media site). I think I did a pretty good job.

The website has over 70 unique pages and includes many stylized javascript codes for flashiness. It is Search Engine Optimized and it also has a functional search bar! Please take a look at it and let me know what you think.

The Central Nine Site serves as a great example to other businesses, school corporations and organizations as to the quality of work Seegull Media is capable of. Want your site to look as good as this? Contact me today!

The Video Podcast section is up and running! It took awhile, but it looks pretty awesome. I managed to incorporate a fantastically cool javascript program called Video Light Box, which amazingly matches the picture viewer in the design and photo sections. Please check out this new section and the many videos I have made. I lit, shot, edited, made graphics and chose music for almost every featured podcast from scratch, and they each serve as a shining example of how Seegull Media can turn any subject into a unique video podcast, chock full of personalized branding identity.

The video posted above is my favorite series, because not only did I get to shoot it, but I hosted it as well. It’s called Border Tripping, and it’s all about backpacking around the world. It was an amazing experience because I got to travel around Europe doing it! It was hard work shooting it on my own, but it was a rewarding experience. This video shows off my awesome skydiving skills (not to mention the work it took to edit and put together).

I was recently asked if I do family portraits. The answer? Yes! Of course I do family portraits! However, my style and philosophy on portraits might be different than others. I like to capture “moments.” I don’t like bringing people into a studio unless it’s absolutely necessary. I like being out in an environment. I don’t like making people “pose,” but when posing is necessary I try to make things fun.

The picture above is of a family I took at a birthday party. I caught them “in the moment,” which is one of my favorite things to do. When a family signs up for a portrait session with me, generally I like to do it outside in a park, at their home, or even at a museum. I like capturing the family as they naturally are, doing something they would normally do as a family together. It’s more fun and exciting than them standing formally in a studio with a fake background.

This is a perfect example. I was with my sister Miranda and her husband Mike on a hike, something they like to do together. I had them stop for a moment and “pose,” but I told Mike to tickle Miranda. This picture was the result.

And when you book a portrait session with me, you don’t just get one photo. I like taking as many pictures as possible, some with the whole family as well as individual shots of parents and children.

I especially like taking pictures of little kids and babies. Their expressions are the best! I can also focus on babies, especially if they’re newborns. There’s nothing like capturing a family in the moment.

So, whether your family is simply two people, or you have an entire clan, I will happily take whatever pictures you might want or need. Sorry I haven’t written for awhile, or that I haven’t gotten around to finishing the video sections yet. I have been busy with my FIRST ACTUAL JOB under the Seegull Media name! I am busily redesigning the website of Central Nine Career Center. As you can see, there’s a lot of work to do. Updates to the Seegull Media site will probably be put on hold until this job is finished, but I am working diligently to finish the Central Nine site. My entire weekend was filled with code, coffee and the Olympics in the background. With the earnings from this job I’m going to open a business account at the bank and buy a kick ass new iMac! So far the site is coming along nicely, and I can’t wait to let you all see it when it’s done!

For reasons I can’t quite explain, I have always loved seagulls. I understand that many people view them as little more than rats with wings, but I have always marveled at the simplicity of their design. They are birds of the sea- majestic creatures of flight. I love watching them soar above the waves and hearing their distant caws on the ocean breeze. When I started learning photography, seagulls were instantly one of my favorite subjects. From any angle, a seagull is an artful bird.

This love for seagulls was reinforced when I read one of my favorite books, Jonathan Livingston Seagull. I highly recommend this book, even for those of you out there who might not like reading. It’s not long, and most of the pages are filled with pictures of seagulls. It only takes about an hour to read. The story is inspiring, telling the tale of a bird named Jonathan Livingston Seagull, who dreams of being more than a common gull. I promise you will not be disappointed. “How much more there is now to living! Instead of our drab slogging forth and back to the fishing boats, there’s reason to life! We can lift ourselves out of ignorance, we can find ourselves as creatures of excellence and intelligence and skill. We can be free! We can learn to fly!”

So, as I was brainstorming a name for the company, I started playing with the word “see.” At first I thought about simply naming it “see it” media, because I loved the tag line “you have to see it to believe it.” This was the potential name for quite some time, but for some reason it just didn’t feel right. After awhile I started playing around with words that start with “sea” and switching it with “see.” Seeshell… Seefood… Seedog… Seeshore… Seegull… SEEGULL! I love seagulls! That was it. The instant the thought entered my head it was decided. It just felt right, and I immediately began designing a logo.

The logo is based off of an actual photograph I took of a group of seagulls. In fact, look closely at the picture at the start of this post. Notice anything familiar about the seagull on the right? That’s right! He’s the gull that inspired the Seegull Media logo. My thanks goes out to this seagull, who I hope is still alive and well in the DC area.

So, that’s pretty much the story behind the name. I’m excited to share it with you. Now all I need are shirts, water bottles, hats and anything else I can put the logo on! And a tattoo! Well, we’ll see about the tattoo…
